Hi, I'm Amber. I'm a linguist-writer-runner-metalhead-strangeling in Kansas City, and I eat almost vegan.
I'm not an activist or an animal lover; I like to eat vegan purely for health. What's different about me is that I don't scour ingredient labels, and I allow myself the occasional exception. To the average person, my diet is extreme. To the diehard vegan, I am a heathen. I, however, am happy with my balance.
Why call myself almost vegan, then, instead of vegetarian? Simple. The average vegetarian’s diet consists of 13% animal protein. Mine consists of perhaps 2%. As a whole, I just don’t like animal products.
Hopefully this blog will be enjoyed by a range of people: "true" vegans looking for food without politics, vegetarians leaning more towards veganism, or anyone who finds a vegan diet alluring but has the preconception that it’s too difficult, complicated, time-consuming, limiting, or expensive. Please feel free to leave suggestions, recommendations, or condemnations in the comments.
I LOVE: Hummus, chickpeas, garlic, peanut butter. Indian, Mexican, Thai, Middle Eastern food.
I HATE: Leafy greens/salad (it's true), minty stuff, anything orange. Barbecue, American food.
...More coming soon! In the meantime, check out this post.
