Hi everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying 2010 as much as I am so far. I’m taking a few days off from blogging after all those Europe posts, but I had to drop in to share this—I was featured in an article in the Food section of the Kansas City Star yesterday!
I actually did the interview and the photoshoot a few weeks ago, but kept it quiet up till now to surprise people. I explained my food philosophy, described some of my experiences in Europe, and shared my three-bean chili recipe. Click here for the online article, or click the image below for a scan of the actual paper.

Congrats.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Amber! May I add that your three- bean chilli sounds so yummy right now. :D
ReplyDeleteI read the article in the Star and checked out your blog and really enjoyed it. I'm as far from a vegan as you can get, but some of the recipes looked really good. I decided to do a stir fry with tofu tonight, so thanks for the inspiration. It was my first time cooking with tofu but it turned out great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great article and a delicious comfort-food recipe. I hope your article was seen by many.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on making it into the paper! That chili sounds great, and I'll have to try it one of these days.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments on my blog, though I haven't updated it in forever. Dogs do suck for the most part, UV Bombs are good (UV Blue and Red Bull), and please don't judge on the stripper incident, it was a random bachelor party and I was just helping her pay her way through college...I swear.
ReplyDeleteAnother big step today, I bought soy milk for the first time. I wanted to make fun of myself, but I'm on a smoothie kick for breakfast and am guessing I won't know the difference.
Jesse—Thanks! You'll have to let me know if/when you try the chili.
ReplyDeleteMatt—I say start up the blog again! Even if your posting waxes and wanes, you should at least keep it alive.
Tofu and soymilk in the same week? That's awesome! It's quite alright to both laugh at yourself and pat yourself on the back simultaneously ;] You definitely won't notice any taste difference in smoothies. What brand did you buy, out of curiosity?
Well, since I am such a high roller, I went with Hy-Vee brand, which I never would have thought even existed. I actually got Vanilla flavored too, which when I tasted it on its own was really sweet. Not sweet like awesome, but literally very sugary tasting. It went well with the smoothie, but not sure I'd use it for anything else.
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel like I should let you know this, I had BBQ for dinner last night. Not very almost vegan, haha.
BTW, I'm jealous of your travels. My friggin' job gets in the way of me doing anything cool. Blah.
Hy-Vee brand? Nice. Yeah, the vanilla ones can be overly sweetened. Good in smoothies, though, as you said. Coffee too.
ReplyDeleteHaha, don't worry, you don't have to report to me every time you eat meat :] The reason I hate BBQ isn't even the meat, it's the smokiness and the sauces, yuck. I did go to Jack Stack a week or two ago with some people. Their broccoli's good, haha.
I'm practically jealous of my travels myself. I started scheming my Europe trip in July, but didn't book it till 2 weeks beforehand because I never thought my work would agree to it. Then I thought what the hell, I'll ask them so I can at least hear them tell me no and then I can stop thinking about it. Imagine my surprise when I asked for a 5 week leave of absence and my boss said "Sure, I don't have a problem with that." !
Speaking of travels, I'm off to L.A. for the weekend, woo!
Alright, I'll stop with the meat reports. Sincle I'm not looking to become vegetarian (or vegan obviously), they would probably become a little too much, haha.
ReplyDeleteA 5 week leave of absence? Nice. I'm going back to school full time in the fall and am going to quit my job 2 months prior to that, so I'm already planning some travels. Plus I'm going to Hawaii for 8 days in April.
Anyways, I've enjoyed "talking" with you, gracelandmatt@yahoo.com is my email address if you want to say anything and not have to keep going back and forth on blog posts.
Today I'm going to Nature's Pantry with my parents to get a few things, we'll see what weird stuff I come back with.
Have fun in LA!
Matt
amber, congrats on the article! ... & i'm loving reading your posts about your european adventure :)
